Holder of an opera diploma from the opera studio of Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg, a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Indiana University University in Bloomington and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of North Texas, Gerardo Garciacano is a renowned Mexican baritone. He has sung over 60 different operatic parts in more than 80 productions in opera houses in Europe. He made a name for himself with the most important rolls of the lyric baritone Fach covering most Mozart, Rossini and Donizetti roles, as well as many French ones.

During the course of almost 20 years on stage, Gerardo has moved into a more dramatic repertoire with Kavalier and Heldenbaritone roles like Faninal in Der Rosenkavalier, Wolfram in Tannhäuser, Posa in Don Carlo, Giorgio Germont in La traviata, Conte di Luna in Il trovatore, Doge in I due Foscari and Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen.

In 2005, he made his debut at Ópera de Bellas Artes in Mexico City as Mercutio in Gounods Roméo et Juliette alongside Rolando Villazón and Anna Netrebko. In 2009 he starred as Schaunard in La Bohème im Hochhaus, a coproduction of ARTE TV and Swiss Television. In 2019 he sang the solos in Carmina Burana at Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City for an audience of 20,000 people.

Gerardo Garciacano has been a member of the ensembles at Theater Biel Solothurn, Theater Bern, Theater Dortmund and at Oper Köln.  He has also had an extensive guesting career at Aalto-Musiktheater in Essen, Staatstheater Nürnberg, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Staatstheater Darmstadt, and Theater Aachen in Germany as well as at the Salzburger Landestheater and Landestheater Linz in Austria and Theater Basel in Switzerland. In France, he has sung at the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg, at Opéra National de Montpellier and at Opéra Grand Avignon. He has worked with conductors like Hans Drewanz, Giacomo Sagripanti and Kent Nagano and with stage directors such as Mariame Clément, Jens-Daniel Herzog, Brigitte Fassbänder, and David Pountney among others.

With over 15 years of experience teaching private lessons and serving as a vocal coach, Gerardo Garciacano has shared his expertise throughout his career. From 1996 to 1998, he taught voice at Denton High School, Billy Ryan High School in Denton and Griffin Middle School in The Colony, Texas. In 2024, he will conduct masterclasses in Mexico and the United States before starting as a professor of lyrical singing at HEMU – Vaud, where he will share his expertise with passion.
